Lakers win while LeBron rests

Despite not having LeBron James playing all week, the Lakers managed to win three out of four games, the injury report continues to be a long and interesting list, and a Midwest/ East Coast trip is coming up. I break it all down in this week’s news roundup.

The Lakers won back-to-back overtime games against the Hornets and Heat, lost embarrassingly to the Timberwolves, and beat the Spurs on Sunday. Add all that up, and you get a 3-1 record for last week’s games. Not bad for a team still missing LeBron, Ariza, Nunn, and now Reaves.

The prodigal son returns

One name that is no longer part of the injury report is Talen Horton-Tucker. He was upgraded to probable before the Spurs game and not only played but started in the game. He had an incredibly productive match scoring 17 points on 50% shooting in his 27 minutes of play. He gave the team a boost of energy and defensive engagement.

The start of the Lakers victory against the Spurs, however, was Anthony Davis. He had 34 points and 15 rebounds, including a shocking 19 points in the first quarter alone.

I wanted to come out and dominate the game and do whatever I could to get the team going

The Lakers will need more Herculean efforts from the brow while they wait for the king to return. LeBron’s return does appear to be eminent, as coach Frank Vogel has described him as being true “day today,” so we’ll have to wait and see if LeBron returns as early as Monday against the Bulls or during their upcoming road trip.

Games this week

The Lakers have one home game, then it’s time for a road trip to the Midwest and a game out east.
